Financial Accountant

What you’ll be doing
You’ll work closely with our Finance Director and external advisors, taking ownership of the day-to-day and month-end financial accounting process, while also supporting loan operations and broader finance initiatives. Your scope will include:
Core Accounting & Reporting
- Preparation of monthly financial accounts through to Trial Balance.
- Posting journals, accruals and prepayments, supported by schedules and reconciliations.
- Maintenance of the Fixed Asset Register and Balance Sheet reconciliations.
- Preparation and submission of quarterly VAT returns.
- Supporting audit preparation and liaison with external auditors.
Finance Operations
- Bookkeeping, bank reconciliations and supplier payments.
- Oversight of cash flow reconciliations and ensuring integrity of loan-related cash movements.
- Monthly and quarterly interest, facility fee and commission calculations.
- Ensuring timely and accurate Withholding Tax calculations and submissions.
Loan Operations
- Preparing files for debt holder payments (senior, junior & unsecured).
- Reconciling loan tapes, creditor panels and bank positions.
- Supporting quarterly interest expense calculations and debt servicing.
Continuous Improvement
- Helping to streamline and document finance processes.
- Identifying ways to automate and scale reporting as we grow.
- Partnering with internal teams and external accountants to strengthen controls.
What we’re looking for
We’re after a commercially minded, detail-driven accountant who thrives in a startup/scale-up environment. Someone comfortable rolling up their sleeves, while also spotting the bigger picture in financial control.
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or finalist with relevant experience.
- Strong knowledge of management accounts, reconciliations, VAT and core accounting.
- Experience in financial services, lending, fintech or SME funding preferred.
- Solid understanding of loan operations (interest calcs, debt holder payments, reconciliations).
- Excel/Google Sheets confident; familiarity with accounting systems (Xero preferred).
- A proactive, “get it done” mindset with attention to detail.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment, balancing structure with adaptability.
